If you’re planning to hire a car and go out and about around Amalfi, Sorrento, etc, in Italy – Don’t! It is a total nightmare. The closer you get to the holiday destination the worse the roads get and the worse the standard of driving gets. The locals stop anywhere, even though parking is not allowed, that’s one hazard, but the standard of driving by the local moped riders, scooterists and motor cyclists is something else. They have no idea of the needs of motorists and weave in and out between cars, vans and coaches, leaving millimetres between them and the vehicle bumpers. It’s nothing to find a roaring rider haring towards you on your opposite side of the road leaving you with no room at all. Then there’s the nightmare of a coach on the opposite side of the road trying to get round a hair-pin bend. Within minutes of all this you’re blood pressure is through the roof!
